Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each. The game is played on a circular or oval-shaped field, with a rectangular 22-yard long pitch at its center. The objective of the game is to score runs while batting and to dismiss the opposing team's players while bowling and fielding.
▎Key Components of Cricket:
1. Teams: Each team has 11 players, including batsmen, bowlers, and fielders.
2. Innings: Each team takes turns to bat and bowl. An innings ends when ten batsmen are out or a predetermined number of overs (sets of six legal deliveries bowled by a bowler) have been completed.
3. Scoring Runs: Runs are scored by batsmen running between the wickets after hitting the ball or by hitting the ball to the boundary (four runs if it reaches the boundary after touching the ground, six runs if it crosses the boundary without touching the ground).
4. Bowling and Fielding: The bowling team aims to dismiss the batsmen by hitting the wickets with the ball, catching the ball after it has been hit but before it touches the ground, or through various other methods such as leg before wicket (LBW).
5. Formats: Cricket has several formats, including:
• Test Cricket: Played over five days with two innings per team.
• One Day Internationals (ODIs): Each team bats for a fixed number of overs, typically 50.
• Twenty20 (T20): A shorter format where each team bats for 20 overs.
6. Equipment: The main equipment includes a cricket bat, a hard ball, protective gear (such as pads and helmets), and wickets (three stumps and two bails at each end of the pitch).
7. Governing Body: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the global governing body for cricket.
Cricket is popular in many countries, especially in South Asia, Australia, England, and the Caribbean, and has a rich history and culture associated with it.
